OnTiv keyboard shortcuts and tips
Updated October 11, 2026 · 2 min read
You can run most of OnTiv's player from the keyboard, which is the fastest way to flip through channels from a laptop or a PC connected to a TV. This page lists every shortcut and a handful of habits that make a large channel list easier to live with.
Keyboard shortcuts
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
Space | Play or pause the current stream |
F | Toggle fullscreen |
D | Switch between dark and light mode |
← / → | Previous / next channel (live TV) |
← / → | Skip back / forward 10 seconds when watching a movie, an episode or a recording |
↑ / ↓ | Volume up / down in 10% steps (also un-mutes) |
Shortcuts are ignored while you are typing in a text box, so searching for a channel will never trigger them by accident. The left and right arrows do two jobs: live channels have a "previous" and "next", while movies, episodes and recordings have a timeline, so the same keys seek instead.
Find channels faster
- Search first. Typing a few letters beats scrolling through hundreds of entries.
- Use category filters to jump straight to a group such as News or Sports.
- Star your favorites. Favorites are saved on your device and are always a click away. With a Premium account they follow you across devices.
Tidy a big playlist
Large playlists often include hundreds of categories you will never open. Use category management to hide the ones you do not watch; the list gets shorter and quicker to navigate. This only changes what you see in OnTiv — it never edits your provider's playlist.
Work with more than one source
OnTiv saves each playlist you load. If you have a home lineup and a separate one for another purpose, keep them as separate saved playlists and switch between them instead of reloading links. Premium adds profiles with their own PINs, channel locks and ratings, which is handy for a household with children.
Watch several things at once
Multiview (Premium) shows up to four channels in one grid — useful for following several matches. Remember that each tile is its own stream, and many providers limit how many you can open at once. If tiles go black, you may have hit that limit; see fixing buffering and playback errors.
Get the app for your screen
For a television, follow how to install OnTiv on Android TV and Fire TV. On a PC, the browser version and the Windows app share the same player.
